The bed back wall is the most important design element in any bedroom — it is the first thing you see when you walk in and the backdrop against which the entire room is composed. This bedroom by Lexangrit Design Studio proves that a stunning bed back wall design does not require an expensive false wall, stone cladding, or complex carpentry. With HDHMR panelling, a carefully chosen wallpaper, and recessed lights, the result is elegant, warm, and completely achievable on a modest budget.
The foundation of this design is HDHMR panelling applied directly to the wall behind the bed. HDHMR — High Density High Moisture Resistant board — is one of the most practical and affordable wall panelling materials available in India. It is more durable than regular MDF, resistant to moisture, and takes paint beautifully. In this design, direct wall paint is applied on the HDHMR panel, keeping the finish smooth and seamless. To hide the unfinished edges of the panel — a common challenge when working with board materials — acrylic putty is applied along the edges, creating a clean, professional finish that looks like a built-in wall feature.
The wallpaper in the centre of the bed back wall is the design accent that ties everything together. Framed by the painted HDHMR panels on either side, the wallpaper creates a structured, layered look — adding pattern, colour, and texture to the wall without overwhelming the space. Recessed lights along the edge of the wallpaper illuminate the transition between the panel and the wallpaper, creating a soft, defined glow that highlights the wall's geometry beautifully.
The tufted headboard and 2 bedside tables complete the bed area, adding comfort and symmetry. The warm bedroom lighting enhances the HDHMR panel finish and the wallpaper tones, creating a cosy, intimate atmosphere that makes this bedroom feel far more expensive than it actually is.
